Tough hilly long run

Today I woke up 7.15 am to run earlier in the morning to avoid the heat. Last night I put two water bottles in the refrigerator.

It was also time to test the sport drink that is going to be served on Lidingöloppet in September, Pripps Sport Energy.

Before I started the run I did my mandatory stretching and put liniment on my right knee and left M. Gluteus maximus.

bild_140809.jpg.

The temperature was 20oC (68F) which is my ideal temperature and was also met by a nice breeze. At 8.10 am I started with 3 laps on St Hans hills and was basically there by myself. The good thing was that it was dew in the grass so my feet was nice wet. I saw a guy walking. On the third lap St Hans came alive when more runners showed up and one lady was out with her dog. After three laps I ran up the top hill again and then I continued on my 8k run.

After 19.5k I felt the three laps in my calves and part of my brain was on it’s way to give up and wanted to walk the last 2 laps on St Hans hills. Up to this time I have been drinking every other k. I did not look forward to the last 2 laps so it was time to take out ”pannbenen”. (=Grab the bulls by its horns). My energy was going down so it was time to drink every k and only sport drink so I could wet my hair to stay cool. So I started to run my first lap and survived. Now some freesbee golfers had showed up and I used the word Fore again to let them know that I was going to pass them :-). Now my feet was also tired, I was on ”slippery ice” a couple of times but blocked it to avoid sprain my feet. Now the feet was not nice wet anymore but warmer. So it was just to run the last lap and see if my brain would refuse to run the top hill again but I did not have a problem with that either. A family was walking down that hill and looked at me strangely. After that I just had to run home.

I went directly to the shower with my clothes on to cool me down and after that it was time to make brunch since I did 28.5k before breakfast. Totalt time: 3.30. 27 h which is not a good time but expected when running before breakfast, my body is not fully awake. No walking this time either. What saved me this Saturday was the breeze. 🙂

The sports drink Pripps Sport energy has been served at Lidingöloppet before and I do not have any problem with it but without any breakfast I felt it in my stomach but did not get cramp.

Long distance running

Woke up this morning around 8 am and started the morning by put a bread dough to ferment for at least 8 hours so I would have enough time to get back from my run before it was time to put the loaves in the oven. After that I put two water bottles in the refrigerator and mixed my sport drink, Maxim Tropical, which was a new flavor I bought last week. I do not like too sweet sports drinks or that they taste artifical like Powerade and Maxim is definately one of my favorites.

After that it was time for breakfast, a bit delayed but finished it by 9.45 am. My plan was to start run at 11 am but now I would only be 15 minutes off schedule.

It seemed to be a breeze when I started to get ready for the run.

When I started to run I felt this breeze very early and there was a hope that even if it was around 24oC (75F) that it wouldn’t be too bad.

Decided to try to drink every other k, started with water and then sport drink. Then after 10k it would be sport drink every k and water my head when ever needed.

The best thing with this run today was BREEZE BREEZE BREEZE, it was a bit warm in the city but when I left the city and ran out in the country the breeze came back quite often. I was a bit jealous of the biker that passed me that had a much higher speed, his ”run” would be over much sooner than mine.

When I returned back to the city every k became easier and easier.

Also positive was when I got back to the city the breeze was also there, usually it is much warmer and no breeze. And I have to work with myself a lot more mentally to keep running til the end.

Compared to last Saturday which was torture I enjoyed the run a lot, Even if I had to wet my head mentally I was more fresh, my feet was not boiling and the last k’s did not feel LONG at all.

My 25k run has turned out to be 26k and the total time today was 2.51.20 h 🙂

This was worth getting up a bit earlier and get the dough ready before the run

Shorter run

bild_140801.jpg

When I started to run today I regretted a little bit that I didn’t join the ”Fun run” 6.30 this morning. I decided to run a 12.5k run in the afternoon and when I looked at the temperature it showed 30oC (86F) so the water belt would definately not stay home.

In the beginning there was a breeze and I was hoping that it could stay for the rest of the run but then I got out in the sun and heat hit me in the face.

Drinking water every k and wet my hair every other k seemed to be a good mix. It was nice out in the country before Vallkärra. I pass a street there with very picturesque houses and have also been a dream of mine for years to have a house on that particular street.

From time to time it was pretty nice because of the breeze that came back once in a while. There were also some other runners out there which I said hello too and they actually said hello back, that is not always the case.

When I got back to Vallkärra after have been running at Annehem and Fäladen I realized that it had not been a fast run and I was not surprised. On the other hand I am surprised why I choose to run in the afternoon, early evening when it is more warm, me who do not like running in the heat but it also strenghtens me. I have participated in a few races when it has been around 30oC (86F).

Total time today: 1.23.19 h, it could have been better. Average speed: 6.23 min but I am satisfied since it was warmer.

Hope it will be a bit cooler tomorrow. Still remember last Saturday when it was really HOT and do not want to go through that again.

Tough hilly long run

Today I was going to be in charge of a long distance run with a group from Coach K Runners . I have only run solo before.

When I woke up this morning at 7.40 I filled two bottles with water and put them in the refrigerator and then mixed the sports drink. New flavor today. Decided to buy Maxim Tropical now when my Lemon & Lime was empty.

Ate breakfast and then it was time to stretch and put liniment on my right knee and left M. Gluteus maxmimus. Met up with 9 other people outside the little grocery store.

IMG_1072_140726.png.

It looked like it was going to be a warm and humid day. We started with running up to St Hans hills and ran two laps on the new trail alignment. It was warm and sweaty up there, lucky there are parts in the shadow that cools you down. Then out on my 8k run. For a short period of time it was a bit cloudier and cooler but then the heat was back. We thank the farmer that had a water hose outside his farmhouse so some people in the group could fill up their water bottles with fluid. I drank every k and cool my head with water when it was needed.

We got back to Lund and up on the hills again two laps. At the end everybody else was faster than me so the last 4.5k was torture for me, It was time to take out ”pannbenen”. (=Grab the bulls by its horns). I hade decided that today I was going to run the whole run if I didn’t run into issues with my knee or M. Gluteus maximus. The last two laps did not go fast but at least I ran and then it was only 2k back to the finishing line.

When I got back home I went straight to the shower and chilled me down. Slowly I became myself again after 1 liter of H2O, 1 liter of coke and 250 ml of chocolate drink.

Total distance: 26k and total time: 3.11 h. Reached my goal to run 25k before Lidingöloppet. I have at least 3 more 25k runs before the race which should not be a problem.

Long distance running

Today it was again for a long run. Decided to get up a bit earlier so I could get out around 11 am.

Read that it was suppose to be the warmest day of this summer so I knew that this would probably be a tough run. At 8 am the temperature was showing 20oC (68F).

Mixed my sport drink that would be Maxim Lemon & Lime flavor and put the bottle in the refrigerator. I saw that I got burned on my upper arms yesterday so I decided  would wear a t-shirt to avoid getting really burned where I already was burned.

Time to also put water in two bottles and put them in the refrigerator til I was going to put them in my water belt.

Time to start getting ready. When I have just started to run I felt a nice cool breeze 🙂 There was some hope that maybe that would save me.

I drank every other k and when I haven’t even run 5k part of me was getting tired but I told myself that if you are going to start walk because of the heat I am going to run at least 10k.

At 4k it was time to wet my head.

1_IMG_1037_140719.png

This is how fresh I felt at 5k.

2_IMG_1039_140719.png

A lot of bikers passed me who were on their way to Lomma beach. 🙂

My 25k run is one of my favorite runs because it is out in the country and a lot of nice views during the run.

3_IMG_1040_140719.png

4_IMG_1041_140719.png

5_IMG_1044_140719.png

All of a sudden it was cloudy and the temperature dropped a bit and if felt much cooler and I enjoyed the ride, no issues with my right knee or M. Gluteus maximus. Liniment makes the difference and the mandatory stretching.

Still feeling strong!

6_IMG_1046_140719.png

When I got to Lomma I continued running in what I call nature reserve and then the road to the beach but no beach today, that will happen next week when the tropical heat is going to be back.

Turned right and passed the paddock.

7_IMG_1047_140719.png

8_IMG_1048_140719.png

9_IMG_1050_140719.png

After 16k I started to drink sport drink every k.

When I returned back to Lund the heat came back and at around 20k I started to get really tired both in my head and legs. It was time to take out ”pannbenen”. (=Grab the bulls by its horns)

10_IMG_1053_140719.png

I was working with myself for 5k, was on my way to start walking but wouldn’t quit til I had run 5 more k but after that I was done. So I walked the last 2k but am satisfied with the run anyway. I guess I was tired when I wet my head with sport drink :-). No issues at all today except for the heat that was not my friend at the end. Lucky me it was cloudy part of the run when it was much cooler.

Long distance running

Today it was time for a long distance run. I decided to get up 30 minutes earlier to start a bit earlier since I expected the same weather as last week.

After breakfast it was time to get ready for the run, mix sport drink and put the bottle in the refrigerator to keep it cold.

Since I recently have run into both problem with my right knee and the left M. gluteus maximus I put liniment on my right knee and the left M. gluteus maximus to warm them up before the run.

I checked the temperature and it was 19oC (F).

Decided that I would wear linnen and the weather was perfect. Not this heat that definately is not my friend when I am running.

First I ran two laps on St Hans hills where there also was a freesbee golfer, I was using the word Fore a couple of times.

IMG_1685_1000px.png

Then instead of running my 8k run I continued with part of the 12.5k run that I ran last week through Fredentorps begravningsplats (Fredentorps cemetery)

IMG_1688_1000px.png

and back to St Hans hills to run 2 laps again. This time it was also some freesbee golfers and a girl who did  yoga on the top hill.

And finally when the weather was perfect I did not have any issues with either my right knee or left M. gluteus maximus. At around 12k there was also a breeze.

I drank on every other k up to 14k and then from 15k I drank every k. A couple of times I also wet my head.

Total distance: 24.18k, average speed: 6.35 min/k, maximum speed: 4.30 min/k 🙂

Long distance running

Today it was time to run a long distance run. Yesterday it was warm and I didn’t expect anything less today.

Mandatory on this run was my water belt with 2 bottles of H2O and 2 bottles of sports drink – Maxim Lemon & Lime flavor and my phone (just in case of an emergency).

When I started the run it was a breeze but then then the heat hit my face and knew that this run would be a tough one. Normally I drink every other k which I started with but after 2k I realized that I would have to drink every k. Before 5k I was on my way to give up by starting to walk but I refused to do that. Yesterday I ran 12.5k in the heat without walking at all.

IMG_1649_140705_1000px.png

Then my right knee started to ache a bit. At around 9k I also started to get some pain in M. Gluteus maximus and decided to endure til 11k. Between 10k and 11k the heat started to tiring me out so it was a pain to get to 11k. Walked 1k and then started to run again.

In Lomma it felt like it could be some rain 🙂 but why would I be so lucky?

The last half of the run was much nicer because it was cooler and more breeze. Plus every k was 1k shorter to the goal.

IMG_1659_140705_1000px.png

I thought that I would be fine all the way home but then M. glutues maximus bothered me again and I had to walk 1k again between 17k and 18k.

IMG_1660_140705_1000px.png
Rain at this point would have been much appreciated but it stayed away.

The last 2k felt very LONG but the last k was even longer, I looked at my pulse watch every other lamppost and finally my pulse watch showed the magical number 22k.

With 20k running, 2k walking I am satisfied with the total time of 2.27.42 h, average speed 6.42 min and max speed was 5.23 min.

I was a bit jealous of the bikers who were out exercising, I cannot wait to buy my own race bike 🙂

Long distance running

Since I couldn’t participate in Båstad Half marathon I created my own ”Gabby’s half marathon.

It started at 14.42 somewhere in Lund.

I hadn’t have time to promote this race and most people would be in Båstad there was no audience and there were no fuel stations either so I had to bring my own, which consisted of H20 and Maxim sport drink, flavor: Lemon & Lime.

Clothing for the day since I have not decided if linen would be ok at a temperature of 20oC (68F), shorts, Coach K Runners linen, the yellow Sövde Triathlon t-shirt, yellow gococo socks.

The temperature was perfect.

First I ran one lap of St Hans Extreme, the new trail alignment minus the half moon since it does not exist at the moment so instead I ran up the top hill again and down and then I ran my 8k run which is very beautiful in the summer.

IMG_1598_140628_1000px

Today I did the stretching that I need but I still ran into trouble with my right knee and also the M. Gluteus maximus in my left bottom so I had to walk, distance unknown since I forgot my pulse belt and could not change the display on my pulse watch, the display showed only speed and time 🙂

Sövde Triathlon Sprint

One week ago I ended up not having a bike for this race and I was thinking maybe this was not meant to be but one person from my running club was kind enough to lend out her race bike to me.  Since I have prepared myself using my 24 gear city bike I was in chock when I picked it up Tuesday afternoon downtown and took my first ”steps with it”. So I had a couple of days to get used to this very different bike.

4.30 this morning the alarm went off and it was time to eat breakfast without stress and pack the rest of things that I needed to be at Sövde for the day.

Suz and I would be the two people representing Coach K Runners and here we are prior to depart time 6.45. Both were going to do this for our first time.

1_bild-4_1400px.png

On our way down it was talk about our expectations of this race

First it was time to get ready for the race by putting our bibs on our bikes and helmets. Take out the wet suit, our lovely white swim cap and swim goggles.

Now we are ready to check in our bikes.

2_bild-10.png

Because we have to put everything that we needed for the bike ride and the run we had to be barefoot before the race started, which was just fine because the weather was perfect. I was a bit nervous because it is a lot to keep track of and also Think about what is best to do to decrease the total time.

It was time to go to ”bajamajorna” to get the first nervousness out of the system.

3_bild-121400px.png

After that it was time to put on the wet suit and head down to the lake Sövdesjön, the temperature was 19oC (66F), Suz was tough to swim only in trisuit and also her first time swimming outdoors. I pepped her to have no fear and just do it. At 9.00 heat 1 started and we were NOT in that, you had to be able to swim under 10 min to be in that heat, my fastest time in the pool was 11.01 so 9.05 it was time to run into the water and start swimming. I had this idea earlier this spring to crawl 200 m and then breaststroke for 200 m but when the total time gets longer and you also get dyspnea I decided that breaststroke it is. Around the buoy it was a bit of a chaose, the jungle law, everyone tried to get first around them so it was a lot of feet and arms flying around. First discipline almost done, time to run out of the water, start to get the wet suit down and run to the exchange area. Get out of the wet suit, put helmet on, sun glasses on, running watch on, running shoes on, decided not to have any socks. Run with the bike out of the exchange area to the magical yellow line where I could ”gracefully” jump on the bike.

Now came the discipline that I was most nervous about, you were suppose to be 12 m behind the bike in front of you plus I had misunderstood and thought that it would be on a country road in the beginning because it was said it would be a very shaky bike path and did not look forward to this. Bike fast but with control was what I wanted to do since it is very easy to bike very fast with a race bike but you are not the only one out on the road. Plus the roads had not been closed for other traffice like cars. I realized that 12 m was not so important and was biking in a good tempo and then Suz passed me and said those magical Words. I do not remember what they were but they triggered me to bike much faster that I had expected. Actually this was the discipline I enjoyed the most. 2 laps (total of 20k) on the same bike path and then it was time to jump ”gracefully” down from the bike and run with the bike into the exchange area again and get ready for the 5k run. When I had parked the bike I could take off the helmet and start running.

I had a very high tempo on the bike discipline because I was breathless when I started to run and tried to get down to a much more enjoyable breating but it was tough. Did not expect a good time here. The trail was fantastic, in the woods. It was such a joy to run throught the finish line and get a medal and a finisher t-shirt. I got some water and a banana.

After I was done I waited to see Suz come running and cheer her on. She ran Kullamannen 56k Ultra last weekend. And then I saw her and cheered her on.

Here Coach K Runners have received their medals and have now done our first Triathlon Sprint 🙂

And here we are with another Coach K Runner who was a competition official today.

Here come the results of Coach K Runners

Combo

Today I did my last combo before the race June 8th.

I had hoped that my wetsuit would have arrived this week so I could have tested it in the pool but that did not happen and when I got to the reception to pay for swimming I was there way too early. Did not open til 12.00, had not checked the open hours on Sundays 🙂 So it was just to bike back home and get ready for biking to Lomma back and forth. it was perfect weather for biking in a t-shirt and capri sweat pants. Some upwind but not too bad. Total time 55.08.6 min.

biking_140405

Then it was time to change clothes for running a flat 5k run. Felt good with a breeze. Glad it was not as hot as it was Thursday, also perfect weather. Total time 30.11 min 🙂

IMG_1493_140525

So now it will be a couple more runs and then I will participate in my first sprint race which I am looking forward to a lot.
