Tough hilly long run

Today I was going to be in charge of a long distance run with a group from Coach K Runners . I have only run solo before.

When I woke up this morning at 7.40 I filled two bottles with water and put them in the refrigerator and then mixed the sports drink. New flavor today. Decided to buy Maxim Tropical now when my Lemon & Lime was empty.

Ate breakfast and then it was time to stretch and put liniment on my right knee and left M. Gluteus maxmimus. Met up with 9 other people outside the little grocery store.

It looked like it was going to be a warm and humid day. We started with running up to St Hans hills and ran two laps on the new trail alignment. It was warm and sweaty up there, lucky there are parts in the shadow that cools you down. Then out on my 8k run. For a short period of time it was a bit cloudier and cooler but then the heat was back. We thank the farmer that had a water hose outside his farmhouse so some people in the group could fill up their water bottles with fluid. I drank every k and cool my head with water when it was needed.

We got back to Lund and up on the hills again two laps. At the end everybody else was faster than me so the last 4.5k was torture for me, It was time to take out ”pannbenen”. (=Grab the bulls by its horns). I hade decided that today I was going to run the whole run if I didn’t run into issues with my knee or M. Gluteus maximus. The last two laps did not go fast but at least I ran and then it was only 2k back to the finishing line.

When I got back home I went straight to the shower and chilled me down. Slowly I became myself again after 1 liter of H2O, 1 liter of coke and 250 ml of chocolate drink.

Total distance: 26k and total time: 3.11 h. Reached my goal to run 25k before Lidingöloppet. I have at least 3 more 25k runs before the race which should not be a problem.

Long distance running

Today it was again for a long run. Decided to get up a bit earlier so I could get out around 11 am.

Read that it was suppose to be the warmest day of this summer so I knew that this would probably be a tough run. At 8 am the temperature was showing 20oC (68F).

Mixed my sport drink that would be Maxim Lemon & Lime flavor and put the bottle in the refrigerator. I saw that I got burned on my upper arms yesterday so I decided  would wear a t-shirt to avoid getting really burned where I already was burned.

Time to also put water in two bottles and put them in the refrigerator til I was going to put them in my water belt.

Time to start getting ready. When I have just started to run I felt a nice cool breeze 🙂 There was some hope that maybe that would save me.

I drank every other k and when I haven’t even run 5k part of me was getting tired but I told myself that if you are going to start walk because of the heat I am going to run at least 10k.

At 4k it was time to wet my head.

This is how fresh I felt at 5k.

A lot of bikers passed me who were on their way to Lomma beach. 🙂

My 25k run is one of my favorite runs because it is out in the country and a lot of nice views during the run.

All of a sudden it was cloudy and the temperature dropped a bit and if felt much cooler and I enjoyed the ride, no issues with my right knee or M. Gluteus maximus. Liniment makes the difference and the mandatory stretching.

Still feeling strong!

When I got to Lomma I continued running in what I call nature reserve and then the road to the beach but no beach today, that will happen next week when the tropical heat is going to be back.

Turned right and passed the paddock.

After 16k I started to drink sport drink every k.

When I returned back to Lund the heat came back and at around 20k I started to get really tired both in my head and legs. It was time to take out ”pannbenen”. (=Grab the bulls by its horns)

I was working with myself for 5k, was on my way to start walking but wouldn’t quit til I had run 5 more k but after that I was done. So I walked the last 2k but am satisfied with the run anyway. I guess I was tired when I wet my head with sport drink :-). No issues at all today except for the heat that was not my friend at the end. Lucky me it was cloudy part of the run when it was much cooler.

Long distance running

Today it was time for a long distance run. I decided to get up 30 minutes earlier to start a bit earlier since I expected the same weather as last week.

After breakfast it was time to get ready for the run, mix sport drink and put the bottle in the refrigerator to keep it cold.

Since I recently have run into both problem with my right knee and the left M. gluteus maximus I put liniment on my right knee and the left M. gluteus maximus to warm them up before the run.

I checked the temperature and it was 19oC (F).

Decided that I would wear linnen and the weather was perfect. Not this heat that definately is not my friend when I am running.

First I ran two laps on St Hans hills where there also was a freesbee golfer, I was using the word Fore a couple of times.

Then instead of running my 8k run I continued with part of the 12.5k run that I ran last week through Fredentorps begravningsplats (Fredentorps cemetery)

IMG_1688_1000px.png

and back to St Hans hills to run 2 laps again. This time it was also some freesbee golfers and a girl who did  yoga on the top hill.

And finally when the weather was perfect I did not have any issues with either my right knee or left M. gluteus maximus. At around 12k there was also a breeze.

I drank on every other k up to 14k and then from 15k I drank every k. A couple of times I also wet my head.

Total distance: 24.18k, average speed: 6.35 min/k, maximum speed: 4.30 min/k 🙂

Long distance running

Today it was time to run a long distance run. Yesterday it was warm and I didn’t expect anything less today.

Mandatory on this run was my water belt with 2 bottles of H2O and 2 bottles of sports drink – Maxim Lemon & Lime flavor and my phone (just in case of an emergency).

When I started the run it was a breeze but then then the heat hit my face and knew that this run would be a tough one. Normally I drink every other k which I started with but after 2k I realized that I would have to drink every k. Before 5k I was on my way to give up by starting to walk but I refused to do that. Yesterday I ran 12.5k in the heat without walking at all.

Then my right knee started to ache a bit. At around 9k I also started to get some pain in M. Gluteus maximus and decided to endure til 11k. Between 10k and 11k the heat started to tiring me out so it was a pain to get to 11k. Walked 1k and then started to run again.

In Lomma it felt like it could be some rain 🙂 but why would I be so lucky?

The last half of the run was much nicer because it was cooler and more breeze. Plus every k was 1k shorter to the goal.

IMG_1659_140705_1000px.png

I thought that I would be fine all the way home but then M. glutues maximus bothered me again and I had to walk 1k again between 17k and 18k.

IMG_1660_140705_1000px.png
Rain at this point would have been much appreciated but it stayed away.

The last 2k felt very LONG but the last k was even longer, I looked at my pulse watch every other lamppost and finally my pulse watch showed the magical number 22k.

With 20k running, 2k walking I am satisfied with the total time of 2.27.42 h, average speed 6.42 min and max speed was 5.23 min.

I was a bit jealous of the bikers who were out exercising, I cannot wait to buy my own race bike 🙂
