Sövde Triathlon Sprint

One week ago I ended up not having a bike for this race and I was thinking maybe this was not meant to be but one person from my running club was kind enough to lend out her race bike to me.  Since I have prepared myself using my 24 gear city bike I was in chock when I picked it up Tuesday afternoon downtown and took my first “steps with it”. So I had a couple of days to get used to this very different bike.

4.30 this morning the alarm went off and it was time to eat breakfast without stress and pack the rest of things that I needed to be at Sövde for the day.

Suz and I would be the two people representing Coach K Runners and here we are prior to depart time 6.45. Both were going to do this for our first time.

On our way down it was talk about our expectations of this race

First it was time to get ready for the race by putting our bibs on our bikes and helmets. Take out the wet suit, our lovely white swim cap and swim goggles.

Now we are ready to check in our bikes.

2_bild-10.png

Because we have to put everything that we needed for the bike ride and the run we had to be barefoot before the race started, which was just fine because the weather was perfect. I was a bit nervous because it is a lot to keep track of and also Think about what is best to do to decrease the total time.

It was time to go to “bajamajorna” to get the first nervousness out of the system.

3_bild-121400px.png

After that it was time to put on the wet suit and head down to the lake Sövdesjön, the temperature was 19oC (66F), Suz was tough to swim only in trisuit and also her first time swimming outdoors. I pepped her to have no fear and just do it. At 9.00 heat 1 started and we were NOT in that, you had to be able to swim under 10 min to be in that heat, my fastest time in the pool was 11.01 so 9.05 it was time to run into the water and start swimming. I had this idea earlier this spring to crawl 200 m and then breaststroke for 200 m but when the total time gets longer and you also get dyspnea I decided that breaststroke it is. Around the buoy it was a bit of a chaose, the jungle law, everyone tried to get first around them so it was a lot of feet and arms flying around. First discipline almost done, time to run out of the water, start to get the wet suit down and run to the exchange area. Get out of the wet suit, put helmet on, sun glasses on, running watch on, running shoes on, decided not to have any socks. Run with the bike out of the exchange area to the magical yellow line where I could “gracefully” jump on the bike.

Now came the discipline that I was most nervous about, you were suppose to be 12 m behind the bike in front of you plus I had misunderstood and thought that it would be on a country road in the beginning because it was said it would be a very shaky bike path and did not look forward to this. Bike fast but with control was what I wanted to do since it is very easy to bike very fast with a race bike but you are not the only one out on the road. Plus the roads had not been closed for other traffice like cars. I realized that 12 m was not so important and was biking in a good tempo and then Suz passed me and said those magical Words. I do not remember what they were but they triggered me to bike much faster that I had expected. Actually this was the discipline I enjoyed the most. 2 laps (total of 20k) on the same bike path and then it was time to jump “gracefully” down from the bike and run with the bike into the exchange area again and get ready for the 5k run. When I had parked the bike I could take off the helmet and start running.

I had a very high tempo on the bike discipline because I was breathless when I started to run and tried to get down to a much more enjoyable breating but it was tough. Did not expect a good time here. The trail was fantastic, in the woods. It was such a joy to run throught the finish line and get a medal and a finisher t-shirt. I got some water and a banana.

After I was done I waited to see Suz come running and cheer her on. She ran Kullamannen 56k Ultra last weekend. And then I saw her and cheered her on.

Here Coach K Runners have received their medals and have now done our first Triathlon Sprint :-)

Combo

Today I did my last combo before the race June 8th.

I had hoped that my wetsuit would have arrived this week so I could have tested it in the pool but that did not happen and when I got to the reception to pay for swimming I was there way too early. Did not open til 12.00, had not checked the open hours on Sundays :-) So it was just to bike back home and get ready for biking to Lomma back and forth. it was perfect weather for biking in a t-shirt and capri sweat pants. Some upwind but not too bad. Total time 55.08.6 min.

biking_140405

Then it was time to change clothes for running a flat 5k run. Felt good with a breeze. Glad it was not as hot as it was Thursday, also perfect weather. Total time 30.11 min :-)

So now it will be a couple more runs and then I will participate in my first sprint race which I am looking forward to a lot.

Combo

Today it was time for another combo.

Started with 400 m swimming. I was a bit late this morning so I was not alone in the pool but I am satisfied with the total time of 11.01.97 min despite obstacles.

IMG_1411_140503_1000px

Then biked home and changed clothes and it was time to bike 20.5k and forth to Lomma

biking_140405

Some upwind today to Lomma but was to bike as fast as I could and the total time was 53.53.6 min

Then the plan was to run to St Hans and run 4 laps on the new trail alignment. On the first lap I could have injured myself. Stumbled on something when I was running down a hill but got the balance back, lucky me it is not the best time to get injured. But I had some misfortune on the third lap. I am not injured, and took a decision to end the run there so the total time was 52.53.7 min. I was trying to run fast up some of the hills but felt tired in my legs after the biking so I just ran and the time would be what it would be.  The total k with the run to St Hans Extreme was approximately 9.5k.

Combo

Today it was time for another combo.

bild_140517.jpg

Started with 400 m in the pool. Saw when I was on my way to the locker room that Suz was the instructor at a boxing workout. It is interesting with these swimming goggles. I try to tighten them as much as I can each time but it does not seem to be tight enough. Swam 400 m and total time today was 11.16.63 min. Before I left I waved at Suz.

Biked home and changed. Today it was a nice temperature, 20oC (68F). It was noticable that it is carnival in town. City biking is always interesting, had to zigzag a lot more today. Not a lot of upwind on my way to Lomma. On my way to Lomma I passed a lot of bikers that I also passed when I got back to Lund. Total time today was the best so far 52.08 min.

Time to change again and run to St Hans hills and run 2 laps (St Hans Extreme light). Today it was time for shorts and t-shirt. I should have brought my water belt as well. It was warm and I also got some light dyspnea. Could have gotten a freesbee in my head today but was lucky it did not happen. There were also freesbee people and mountain board people where I ran. Total time today 33.57.9 min, cannot complain even it it was hot. Tried to run fast up the hills where I know I can. This was probably the last hilly run before St Hans Extreme race next week.

It is going to be one more combo before the race June 8th, next time I hope the wet suit has arrived that I am going to rent so I can test it to see if it fits me.

Combo

Today it was time for another combo: 400 m swimming, 20k biking and 5k running

Biked to the swimming pool and did my 400 m. It was very few people there today. So I had a lane for myself. The total time did not seem accurate.

After that I biked home to change and then I biked back and forth to Lomma.

biking_140405

It was a strong upwind to Lomma, there were times when my bike was hardly moving and I was hoping for no upwind on my way home and was lucky and the sun was even out. Total time today 1.01.44 h. I am satisfied with the time considering that I was running 10k hilly running yesterday and I felt that during the bike ride.

Time to change again and out and run 5k. Upwind is what I have experienced today even during the run. Total time of 32.20.3 min. I have done better.

Combo

I decided to not swim today and for the first time I biked and ran outside.

biking_140405

A total time of 56.42 min and 20.5k. I have never trained biking before so I am satisfied with the time considering it was a lot of upwind. 9oC (48F).
After 20.5k biking my butt and rear thighs were tired. I do not have a competition bike, just my 24 gear city bike. Maybe I should change bike seat :-)
Needed to change clothes before I ran. Today I decided to run 2 laps on St Hans Extreme. There are a lot of changes going on at St Hans Hill.

Where St Hans Extreme normally starts there are fences now but I thought that I could come in through the side but it was not open today so I took an alternative way through the bushes.
Today I ran St Hans Extreme the regular way and the first thing I saw was that there was a mountain board competition on the top hill but we could share the hill without any problems.

It was an interesting run, St Hans Extreme does not look the same and I was thinking that maybe I should have a helmet on from now on. You will soon found out why

1_IMG_1341_140405_1000px2_IMG_1342_140405_1000px3_IMG_1344_140405_1000px

There is a freesbee golf course in the middle of St Hans Extreme. I thought it was popular in 80th’s but it has resurfaced.

My legs were not fast today after the biking but I have just got back exercising it wasn’t such a bad thing to take it easy.

IMG_1349_140405_1000px

A total time of 1.04.34 h, total distance of 8.54k. Average speed of 7.33 min/k :-)

Good to be back after no exercising for two weeks due to a nasty cough.

Combo

Today it was time for another combo. 400 m swimming, 20k biking and 5k running.

I got to the pool a bit later but was lucky it only was two “söndagssimmare” (Sunday swimmers) at the lanes. Was trying to tighten my swim goggles more but they still get foggy. Have to work on that. I am very glad for my timer where I can get more accurate times than the clock on the wall. I am very satisfied with the swimming today, only breaststroke. PB so far.

IMG_1302_140308_1000px

Because Gerda had a Inspiration day I continued with the biking and running at Actic.

The biking was another story. I did not have any “lead legs” but there was no go today so I was wondering how the running would go. It is very interesting with gym bikes. Also when you are switching between different gyms. All have one thing in common. There is a resistance when you are biking. The time was not the best

IMG_1305_140308_1000px IMG_1306_140308_1000px

I do not know what it was with this bike today, every other k I increased the incline and was trying to increase the speed but all of a sudden the bike paused and it happened more than once. What is that?

The running was just fine, no problem there. First 4 k with a tempo of 5.59 min/k and then the last k I ran with a tempo of 5 min/k, a total of 29.07 min :-)

I really do not like gyms with TV but I have to admit it was really nice running and watch Richardsson in the cross country skiing competition at Holmenkollen today.

Maybe I could do some real biking and running next time which means outside.

IMG_1307_140308_1000px

After this combo I had a chocolate drink and a new smoothie with avacodo in it, which is new to me but tasted really good.

IMG_1310_140308_1000px

Combo

Today it was a combo with 400 m swimming, 20k biking and 5k running

because it was only me and another lady there so I had two lanes by myself. Expected a better
time than last time when I was not crawling. I had to laugh at myself :-)

IMG_1283_140219_1000px

Last time I had 11.28 min without crawling so crawling is not in my favor right now.

Time to bike to Gerda to do the two last disciplines: biking and running.

Biking today I started with an incline of 4 and every other k I increased the incline to 10 and then biking standing up for 1k. Feeling pretty good today. Total time 52.55 min.

Biking_140219

The treadmills were popular today so I hoped by the time I would be ready for running that it would be one for me.

I do not like to run on a treadmill normally and today I was really bored. The thing with the combo is that you can not bike shorter than 20 k and not run less than 5k, a thought that came over me was that if I run faster it will be over sooner :-) But I was not in a mood to increase the speed every k, started with 6 min/k (10) for 4k and then increased the speed to 11 when it was 1k left and then increased the speed to 5 min/k (12) when it was 500 m left. Total time today was 29.23 min.

#52 – 50 runs in 100 days

1 day, 0 days to go

Today it is the last day of this challenge and my second bonus was a combo.

Was greeted by Suz when I got to Actic to swim. She was standing in her very nice belly dance outfit.

Friday afternoon I felt ache in my left shoulder, could do Newaza yesterday did not have any issues with my shoulder til the end.

This morning I felt ache in my shoulder and decided to not do any crawling after swimming 400 m breaststroke

Today I brought my stopwatch and got a more accurate time: 11.28.48 min :-)

IMG_1259_140208_1000px

Biked to Gerda and continued with biking and running

During biking the first k took 3 min but I am getting faster and faster meanwhile

biking_140208

Every other k I increased the incline to 10 and stood up and biked a bit faster. At 10k I had the time 25.41 min. Total time today 50.46 min. :-)

Over to running where I ran most of the run in a comfortable pace of 6 min/k. When it was 1 k left I increased the speed to 5.27 min/k and when it was 500 m left I increased the speed to 5 min/k. Total time today was 29.24 min

The calves today was tired after physical training Thursday.

I have enjoyed this challenge and glad that I was able to pass 50 runs. In November it felt very far away to reach the goal but I had decided to make it. Stayed away from injuries and had only one day flu.

#43 – 50 runs in 100 days

17 day, 16 days to go

Today it was a combo. I realized that the recovery takes a bit longer than I thought. Doing one combo each week was not working for me, noticed that the third week in a row and have had one week’s rest from combo.

  • Swimming 400 m

When I got to the pool the first three lanes was occupied by kids who had swimming school. The goal today was to crawl 2×25 m. Finally I got a lane for myself. After 100 m I crawled 25 m, oh gosh it really takes the life out of me, Very breathless. And then I did that twice.

The time today was around 11 min, the crawling might have slowed me down.

Swimming also feels in my neck afterwards. The swim goggles must fit more closely, got fog inside today. I had some pain in my right knee afterwards. I might have to stretch before I start swim.

IMG_1225

Then it was time to bike to the gym and finish the last two disciplines: biking and running

Started with 20k biking, started with an incline of 5 and then increased it to 8. Three times I increased the incline to 10 and stood up for 1k

IMG_1226

After 2k it did not look very promising

IMG_1227_1000px

But after 7k I must have speeded it up a bit

At 10k

IMG_1229_1000px

After 17k and the last incline of 10 and the familiar dyspnea

IMG_1230

The total time today was 50.39 which is the fastest time so far :-)

IMG_1231_1000px

Then I went to the treadmill where it was time for 5k running in a comfortable pace. Started with 6min/k for 4.5k and then decided to speed it up the last 500m to 5 min/k. Total time today was 29.42 min
