#week 12

Rehab exercises that I will do this week

1. Squats from a chair

2. Lunges backwards

3. Gliding bridges with one leg

Monday

Gym before work where the focus was on biceps, triceps, back, legs, hips, calves.

Rehab exercises were done.

Tuesday

Swimming before work and it was no so crowded. Not crowded which works for me. Tuesday morning is a much better morning than Wednesday when it can be calm or some disorder.

Distance: 2325 m, pace: 2’28 /100m, time: 57’46.6 min

Was suppose to do a short hilly run but didn’t like the weather so I decided to skip the running.

Forgot to do my rehab exercises.

Wednesday

Swimming before work where I challenged myself with some new exercises that were good but slowed me down a bit. Also some disorder at the end when another swimmer got into the fast lanes and were all over the place.

Distance: 2075 m, pace: 2’40 /100m, time: 55’43.4 min

Totally forgot to do my rehab exercises so I just have to do them later this week.

Thursday

Drove to the gym early where the focus was on shoulders, legs, back, hip, calves and then some exercises for my swimming.

On Flyes there were no 6kg weights so I tested 7kg and that worked so I guess I will continue with that weight from now on.

Rehab exercises were also done.

Was suppose to run after work but needed to get my new passport and chose to rest my knee a bit longer

Friday

Started the morning with PowerYoga 2 where the focus was on rotation.

We were challenged with the pose the dog and twist around with our legs but I made it.

Rehab exercises after work just needed to be done.

Saturday

Finally it was time for the first run after Kullamannen, took some time off from running to rest my knee. This morning I also tested my new Altra Lone Peak 5.

When I drove to Frostavallen it started to rain, hoped it would stop before I arrived to the parking lot but no such luck, on the other hand runners should be able to handle all type of weather. So I just had to get out and do it, some drizzle but it did not bother me too much.

Definately the wettest and gooey run this Fall so far. Had planned to increase the distance but my knee protested a bit at the end so I hope I can do it next Saturday.

Still avoiding running on hard dirt roads and asphalt.

Heavy running so I could not run up on all hills.

But so nice to be back in the forest and enjoy the nature.

Distance: 15.30K, pace: 9’38/ km,time: 2:27’28 h

Foot exercises and foamrolling of feet and rehab exercises when I got back home.

Preparation HIM

Got up this morning.

The plan was to head up to Frostavallen and run my 18K trail run.

First it started to rain and then it stopped and then it started to rain/hail, part of me decided to stay in Lund and hope for better weather but am now glad that I decided to head up there anyway.

It was bit colder but I did not put on my winter jacket, instead I put on my windstopper.

Have had issues with my right knee and decided to take it easy and listen to the knee.

The goal today was also to run up on more hills on white and continue running instead of walking afterwards.

There is one part on white where I run up on one hill and then it is a short flat part and then comes another hill, earlier I have walked between and today I was going to continue running on the short flat part and then continue running when I had gotten up on the second hill. Unfortunately I ran into a smaller respiratory distress and decided to walk til I had normal breathing again.

Did not have to visit the toilet or take off the windstopper so I continued running on the blue marker.

Since it had been raining I decided that I would not run to the right at Dagtorpssjön (the lake of Dagtorp), instead I would stay on the blue new marker, earlier it was black and the black marker had the lake of Dagtorp to the right.

It was some drizzle during the run but just shortly and I did not get wet.

On the first dirt road I ran in the middle of the road, heard a car and had to get down to the right and then back on the middle, have the experience that my knees complain if the road is leaning.

Major improvement today was that I handled the stony parts very good, could run there without falling. Actually I did not fall once during this trail run. There were some trekkers standing at the beginning of the blue marker and some dog walkers when I got back on green.

I felt really strong today, felt that I am fully back now after vacation.

I was hoping I would have a faster pace and when I had around 1:22 h it was 8K left and was hoping to finish the route around 2:15 h.

Had to walk a bit due to a very tired right calf and then my right knee protested a bit when it was approximately 1K left.

It was so much greener now then a couple of weeks ago when I was here last time.

On the transport back to the train station I was walking mainly to calm my right knee down and at the end I was running to the train station.

Enjoyed the run a lot. Will continue running more and walk less. It is just a mental thing. Started to wak after I had gotten up on the hills when I started to run after my pneumonia

Have had a great week when it comes to get ready for the HIM

Biking: 61.18K, total time: 2:40h
Swimming: Approximately 1800m, total time: 2h
Running: 16.9K, total time: 2:18h

Breathing has started to fall in place, will continue with the exercises I did on the coaching next week when I will be on my own. Next week I have my second crawl class with the Qgroup from the south.

16.28K Trail Run

Part of me wanted to turn around and go back to my warm home when I started my walk down to the train station. It was cold and it was snowing a bit but my stronger me decided to get going.

Warmed me up inside before it was time to get on the second train. Hav ing a 20 minutes train ride is perfect for stretching. Important to have something to hold on to when the train is stopping at the different stations. Got to Höörs train station 10 minutes before the bus would leave and today no such luck that the bus was already there so I had to sit outside and try to warm up my legs. Today it was a big bus but only me on it.

when I got off the bus it was cold, snowing and I felt that it was ”gliding” snow and decided to cut the distance, was suppose to increase the distance today but decided to run the same route as last weekend but run to the right around the lake of Dagtorp to see how long it would be to take the red after I got back to Frostavallen.

Was cold in the beginning but it did not take long til I got warm. Goal for today was to continue running up all the way on all hills and also continue running after I had reached the top even if I was breathless. This is a mindset that I have to work on. Of course I will get breathless when I have run up on a hill but that doesn’t mean that I have to start walking. Worked.

A bit heavier snow today, more wet than last weekend. Not a lot of activity when it came to others.

When I was going to take the first picture and brought out my mobile phone it was ”black”, battery basically dead, was 100% charged when I left, this happens when it is colder outside. So I had to stop and charge the battery and voilá it got up to 87% immediately.

Nice feeling when I realize at certain parts that no one today have been treeking or running there before me. Nice to be the first one to put my  footprints on the snow.

Usually around the lake of Dagtorp I hear the hunters on a distance at this time of the year, today I heard dogs barking. Ran all the way on the first dirt road on the blue marker, one car passed me, probably a ”hunter” car.

Decided to run on the tough technical area with all the stones on the first blue marker area and did not fall or stumble this time.

Interesting that I always get a special feeling when I get to the part where the third fuel station is on Tjörnarparen –  the ultra race that I usually run in December. Today when I got to that hill part on the second dirt road I decided to run to the second M sign and I did it 🙂

Finally I got to Djuralid’s hill, today I had back gliding, nothing to hold on and back gliding but I got to the top, ran up on the short steep hill after this hill.

Passed a dog walker who asked me if I ran on the path and I said yes. She said it had been hunters there earlier but thought I would be fine, I have not seen any hunters there before and did not see any now.

Got on the red marker and did not miss to turn to the right before the jetty. So running on the red marker instead of continuing on the orange and then green did not increase the distance.

16.77K Trail Run

It was cold and icy this morning when I headed up to Frostavallen.

Wore wool long sleeve, wool sports bra, 2XU compression tights, wool socks, altra lonepeak 4.0, gloves and hat, 500 mL total of water

When I got closer to Höör train station it was snow on the fields, did not expect this 🙂

Colder means that I have to wait outside in the cold and wait for the bus to take me to Frostavallen but lucky me the bus was already there, this morning I was not alone on the bus, we were a total of 4 people who ended up getting off at Frostavallen, two trekkers, me (a runner).

Had to visit the toilet in the beginning, felt that I could not wait til 4K where there is also toilets.

So nice with all the white that was surrounding me, snow on the ground, snow on the trees and bushes.

And this squeaking under my trail running shoes.

Goal today was once again to run up all the way on all hills and walk as little as possible.

Still has to do some walking after I have getting up all the way on a hill but will work on it, still believe it is a mindset. Just have to keep going afterwards.

.

Was not sure how stable these trail running shoes would be, first running on snow. Regular trail running shoes but no gliding on the snow at all, so satisfied with these.

There are still hunters in the area, heard them on a distance. Passed one runner today and one girl with a dog and a bigger group of trekkers who did not have trail sense. Cannot be on all the trail path if someone is coming in the other direction and needs to pass.

Was cold but did not freeze in the beginning and soon my gloves and hat went off and I was warm. Good when it is cold because u know that if u walk longer u will get cold and freeze and that is the last thing that I want to do. And also remember that I am out on a running route, not any trekking.

It felt that I had a fast trail run during the run, was much heavier running last weekend. No pain today either.

Did not run up Djuralidsbacken but later this Spring when it is drier I will do it.

No falling today and not any stumbling, it looks like I am used to the trail running again.

Thought the distance would be longer but I chose to run to the left on the blue marker and it is a bit shorter so going on red marker today at the end did not make it longer, interesting, all of a sudden at the end there was a familiar jetty (=badbrygga), no wonder I had rounded the lake all the way and passed the path where I was suppose to turn up to the right and had to turn back 🙂

Then it was time to head back to the train station again and today the running back was the fastest so far, this time.

16.96K Trail Run

Time again for some trail running.

Took the train to Höörs train station, no delays this Saturday, and then bus to Frostavallen. Once again I was the only one on the bus.

Glad that this bus exists, otherwise I have had to run 4K on asphalt to get to Frostavallen but now I can take the bus instead and just run back after the trail run is finished.

It was a bit icy when I walked down to the train station and was not sure how it would be on my trail run.

A bit chillier and it was a bit icy when I started running outside the parking lot and crossed the car road.

A bit heavier running today, do not know why.

The goal was once again to run up all the way on most hills, hopefully I could run on all footbridges.

Brought two soft flasks with 500 mL total of water in them.

Started my run and then when I got warm I took off my gloves and hat.

Today it was grey, rain in the air.

I really enjoy running these trail runs, so nice to be running in the forest and also the variation.

The goal was also to run more and walk less. Once again on blue I turned to the right to run closer to the lake Dagtorpssjön.

After I had taken the first picture my phone died, glad that I always bring an extra battery (charger) so I can charge the battery.

Today I ran the whole time on the first dirt road part on the blue marker.

Was running on all footbridges except the ones that did not have any mesh (=stålnät) on them.

On the blue I saw the cows on a distance but when I got to the place where they drink water, they had walked back up to the left. Didn’t have to deal with them.

Heard the hunters but know that they are not where I am running right now.  None of their cars passed me on the second dirt road, on that road I had to do some walking.

Did not walk up on the hill Djuralidsbacken but ran up on all the other hills after that hill.

Passed some who were out walking but no dogs today.

The plan was to run on the other side of the lake Vaxsjön so when I got back to Frostavallen I continued on green but realized that it is the red that goes on the side of the lake Vaxsjön so I will do that next weekend.

It is so nice to be able to run all the way when I get to Vaxsjön, earlier last year it was a lot of walking.

I did not even think about the right knee, did not have any pain this time, it is definately going in the right direction.

It started to rain during the trail run but did not get wet except my face.

After the trail run, I started heading back to Höörs train station. Bougth the train ticket via a app but did not activate it, did not know which train I would jump on back to my city. Just in case that I had to run if I saw a train coming in when I had come on the other side, it was good to have a ticket ready.

17.14K Trail Run

Time again for some trail running.

Wore ny new winter compression tights, wool socks, wool long sleeve shirt, wool sports bra, winter jacket, gloves and hat plus ultra back pack, altra lonepeak 4.0

When I was on my out from my home I realized that I had forgotten to put water in the water bladder, lucky me I had two soft flasks to fill a total of 500 mL with. 🙂

When I walked down to the first train station it felt a bit icy but it had not rained the whole week so I was hoping it would be less gooey than last weekend.

When I got down to Lund central station I heard that one train was delayed, checked the board and saw that there were more train delays including my train, due to rail road tracks running. Unbelievable. I was thinking when will the train arrive in Höör, the buss leaves at 9.22 and the train would leave 8.52 instead of 8.44. It would be tight, part of me wanted to turn back but I decided to take the train. We left 8.54. Got to Höör train station 8.18, the bus was there and I made it 🙂

Looked like it had been raining but it was not grey as last weekend.

Got out from the bus and started my pulse watch and then started my trail run.

I had decided that I would run up all the way on more hills.

Looked like it was gooey icy. The goo was not as wet as last weekend in the beginning.

Passed some runners in the beginning, the girl had actually the same winter jacket and color 🙂 They ran with rods

Started on the green marker and got up all the way on all hills, there is one part where it is going down hill where I have fallen last year when it was wet and gooey so I took it easy down there.

It was colder this Saturday then last weekend so I had cold hands in the beginning but they got warm and I took them off and my hat.

Then it  was time to get on the white marker and now I ran up all the way on the white marker, felt great. It is definately a mindset. I remember this Spring when I ran up part of the way or walked all the way, I was heavier than but still if u have the right mindset u can do it.

Hadn’t fallen yet

Visited the toilet before I headed out on the blue marker. Thought that I would take off my jacket but decided to keep it on.

Today I ran on all the footbridges.

Today it was me, the hunters that mainly was out.

On the blue marker I decided that I would run on the original ”Tjörnarparen” part, earlier this blue marker was black but when it was very wet and gooey they changed it to blue and changed the path so it is going to the left now but earlier it was going to the right, closer to Dagtorpssjön. I could actually see across the lake and see where I would continue after the dirt road.

There are two dirt roads on the blue marker and I get so bored sometimes that I walk, I do not know why, it will just take longer but I do not walk too long because I am out running, not trekking which I remind myself about when I start to walk.

I was almost falling a couple of times but did not.

On the second dirt road there were a lot of traffic, some cars passed me, it looked like it was hunters who moved to another location.

I could see the sun among the clouds and finally it got out, so nice

Til now I have run up all the way on all hills and now it was time to get up on Djuralidsbacken (Djuralids hill) which is short and very steep, at this time of the year I am walking up on it, it is too wet and gooey for me but I hav run up all they way on this hill in August some years ago because I decided that I would do it so once again right mindset.

Today I did not meet any cows but at the same place as last time where I met two dogs there were two very white fluffy dogs and a white samujed.

They ran towards me and barked, the listened to tcht, the smaller ones ran after me when I passed their owners.

I was now back on the green marker and passed another runner with a happy dog and said hello.

I had planned to run on the other side of the lake Vaxsjön but decided to run on the same side. So I finished on the orange marker.  Now I ran all the way to the parking lot, remember this Spring when I walked part of it. So different now.

So ran up all the way on all hills except Djuralidsbacken, ran on all the footbridges, I hoped for a better finish time this Saturday and I did it, 8 minutes faster and a bit longer trail run, the average pace was a bit faster.

Enjoyed the trail run a lot, so much variation and nice area and no city noise.

Next week I will do the same route as today but run on the side of the lake Vaxsjön, I suspect it will be a bit longer.

Time to head back to the train station, I was not sure if the trains would be delayed or not but they were on time. The run back to the city is running with walking.

16.8K Trail Run

When I woke up this morning it was raining and the weaker me spoke to me about not do any running but my stronger me won this time 🙂

Took the train to Höör’s train station and waited for the bus which would take me to Frostavallen.

Christmas Eve I fell on a ice spot, scratched my knee badly, my compression tights got destroyed so I ordered new winter compression tights that I could wear on my trail run and then I decided to test my new Altra Lonepeak 4.0.

I decided that I would get up to Höör and if the weather would be worse I had to come up with a B plan but it was only some drizzle so I got on the bus and then started my trail run.

It has been a while since I had been up around Frostavallen and it was nice being back. I wanted to take it easy, did not want to fall on my right knee which now has a big scab.

Expected it to be gooey and wet, wanted to take it easy so I did not fall on my right knee that has a scab since the fall Christmas Eve.

Decided also to stand still when I would take a picture, much safer that way 🙂

Felt very good to run up most of the hills, that was not the case this Spring when I got back with my running after my pneumonia.

Also remembered the down hill part where I fell earlier so I took it easy on that place

Started on the green marker, ran up on all those hills and then got on the white marker where I couldn’t run up all the way on one hill.

Thought that I would be fine but then it happened, fell on a flat part but lucky me I ended up in a not so gracious Dog pose (Yoga pose), did not fall on the knee 🙂

Decided to walk on all footbridges, I have the experience that they can be slippery when they are wet

I almost fell several times but I am quite good at fend off most falls.

I fell a second time when I had just said that walk over those places where there are a lot of stones, wet stones are slippery and then I was there again in a Dog pose 🙂

And then they showed up

I took charge, directed them to the left so I could pass. These cows are definately more afraid of me than I am of them.

Most of this route is on ”Tjörnarparen”, the ultra race I run in December and it is always special to get to the place where the third fuel station is. First year I ran, when this started, a guy stood further upp and pepped us. And u feel that you are getting closer to the finish line.

Finally I got to Djuralidsbacken (the toughest hill on this race, short and very steep. One time I have run up all the way, some years ago in August but now it is wet and it was as tough as expected but then I ran up the hill after that and that felt good.

In the woods I met a lady with two dogs who wanted to be patted, they had orange vests on them and asked her if they were hunter dogs, they were but she did not use them as that. I wondered about those vests, she was smart, on these was on mobile number if they would disappear.

Continued my run.

I hoped that I could finish this route around 2h and 30 minutes. Today I had to walk up on some hills, walk to catch my breath but not walk due to a knee  issue, it feels that I am getting there -> run pain free

40.04K Trail Run

#62

This morning it was time for another trail run, the last on Österlen this and the last but one 40K trail run.

Was cold in the summer cottage in the morning so I had to drink two coffee before we hit the road.

How could the temperature drop so fast, last Saturday it was 11oC (51.8F), my feet was cold but got warm eventually. When I started it was 6oC (42.8F).

I was prepared and brought compression tights with fleece, wool sports bra, wool long sleeve, wool socks, windstopper, had forgotten to bring gloves but brought with me on the run my gloves I have when I bike to work. Didn’t need to wear them very long til my hands were warm.

Was left off at Alunbruket, from a distance I saw that there were cows on the meadow I pass before the woods. So I decided to start with the yellow marker instead of the orange marker, everything was just fine til I got out on a more open area and saw these cows, I do not trust these cows at all, at Brösarp hills I and the cows have bonded. I was not in a mood of dealing with these cows so I turned around and hoped that all cows would be on this first meadow. I now continued on the orange marker but when I got to the famous meadow I saw the cows, what?????? These cows are not going tot destroy my day, I am going to run my 40K trail run, since I am a problem solver I had to come up with a second detour, there is a red marker that I have seen when I have gotten out from the woods and am getting close to Hallamölla, where is the start, decided to head back to Alunbruket and have seen that there is a map, saw where the red marker started and had to head back towards Christinehof and then saw where the red marker was heading, have never run on the red marker before

A bit hilly in the beginning and mainly dirt roads, the red markers were far apart but one running friend of mine has tought me to continue forward if u do not see any arrow in another direction and it was true. Finally got on the dirt road where I am getting down on when I run on the orange marker and am in the woods and then get out on this dirt road.

Was not sure how long detour I had taken but when I was on my way to Vantalängan my pulse watch sounded and saw that it was 10k, so I calculated that I had 3K extra. I was suppose to run to Baskemölla and was not sure where I would end now.

I had some knee issues in the beginning and also fell flat faced before Vantalängan, scraped my elbow and my knee.

When I got to the Northern Brösarps Hills there were these cows I have bonded with very close to the orange marker

But I could walk to the left and they stayed on the right, one was glaring at me but did not move and when I had a distance I could start running again. When I got to the top hill there were more cows and I also managed to pass them without any issues, see how it goes when u have bonded 🙂 After I had run down in the valley and up again I saw that there was bull calves but I could pass them too 🙂

At the rest area I informed Wille that he had to pick me up at Vik instead of Baskemölla. Continued to Brösarp hills on my to Haväng, it got colder and put on the windstopper again but after a short time I felt it was too warm so I had to take it off. Had to walk from time to time but tried to walk not too long. When I got closer to Haväng there was a group in front of me, kids and some adults, one tried to scare the sheep, it was not my job to tell the kid to stop but finally the owner got his attention, passed this crows and got to Haväng, was a bit tough to run between Haväng and Vitemölla, tired legs and sand is not a good combo.

After that I had some K’s with asphalt and this weekend it was also Kiviks apple market, tought to pass Kivik with all the cars parked on the side, cars on the road moving and people waking on the side but finally I got out from Kivik and thought that I would be fine but of course they also had to visit Kivik’s musteri (cider place), narrow road, cars in both directions, bus, train with people between Kivik and Kiviks musteri and a tractor also transporting people and then me trying to be on the left side, sometimes have to stop to let cars pass, with tired legs it was not easy balancing on the shoulder and the ditch. Good to finally reach Stenshuvud

Good started running again til I got to the part where it goes up to Stenshuvud 400m when I have to walk and for the last time see this view, for this year

Magical.

Then it was time to head down from the top and the bottom of Stenshuvud.

Tried to walk shorter and run longer, had to say that I had to pass some times during my run at Stenhuvud’s area.

Finally got out from there, had a dirt road to run on before I got out on the asphalt again. Trail shoes on asphalt is not a good combo. There are two uphills on the last 5K. Had informed Wille to pick me up on the other side of Vik because I thought I would have 1K left when I got to Vik.

But when I got close to Vik I only had 800m left to 40K so I informed me Wille to get to the harbour instead. When I got down to the water I turned to the left and then turn back, when I got to the harbour Wille was there, odd, turned out that he had to read about the other part 🙂

So of course I had to take a swim in the ocean before the late lunch. Just had to do it. You probably can guess it was cold, it was 13oC (55.4F)

35.02K Trail Run

#60

Last weekend I ran one lap on Kullaberg and this weekend it was time for a longer trail run on Österlen.

Yesterday the storm Knud hit Sweden. I had a gig with my choir at lunch time, had a lovely upwind when I biked to the city and it was warm on my way up back to work. Lucky me I got back before the rain started. I was also lucky I did not have to take the bus down to Östelen, Wille picked me up at work but on my way to the car I got my shoe in a puddle, did not see it, I tried to get to the car as fast as I could, did not have any umbrella 🙂

There was talk the storm would stay over the weekend. It was windy at lunchtime but  nothing flew in front of me. It was windy on our down to Österlen, got a beginning water planing and some rain. I heard the rain during the nite and hoped it wouldn’t a rainy run today.

This morning I decided to put on my capri tights and t-shirt and I got a ride to Alunbruket, when I stepped out of the car I felt the cold and decided to change to long sleeve and I was glad that I did that.

It does not take long til I get to a short steep hill and have to walk a short distance after I have run up the hill and I felt the cold, my feet was cold and I hoped that I wouldn’t freeze for the rest of the day.

It did not take long til I got warm, at one point I felt that the long sleeve was a bit too warm and was thinking that I would change to the t-shirt that I put in the dry bag in my ultra back pack but then the cold wind hit me again so the long sleeve stayed on. I rolled up the arms from time to time and wet my hair a few times.

On the meadow there was no cows 🙂

I continued running in the forest and minding my own business and all of a sudden I saw two cows, what? Where did they come from, there have not been any cows in the forest before.

When I had run up the hill that I decided to run up all the way I was breathless, which I have been on all the runs before, had to drink but could not swallow, that was a first.

Another interesting thing that happened was that at one place, North Brösarps hill, at a long distance I saw cows jumping down a hill, was wondering what was going on. When I got down to the first valley I saw a bunch of cows walking in their pasture, seemed that that was a leader, realized that they were passing Skåneleden where I was running so I had to make a detour to the left, keep a distance from the cows is a good advice. Further up there was a cow who was bellowing, some cows had not followed the crowd and further up to the left there were cows who still were there who started running to get to the crowd, first I had to stop, did not want to come in their way but saw that I could continue before they came in my way, now another cow was also bellowing to the rest of the cows further up.

Today it was the most windy run so far and the positive thing was that I did not want to walk too long because then I got cold 🙂

Passed some trekkers.

When I got to Haväng I thought that it would be best to stay away from the water, I thought it would be more windy there.

The first 10K took 1.30h so I hoped that I would be able to run 20K around 3h and I made it in 2.58h 🙂 there was hope.

When I got to Vitemölla it would be asphalt all the way to Stenshuvud but I kept going with trying to walk short and run longer.

The question was if it would rain or not. When I left it was blue sky and not anything grey so I thought that I would be safe but when it was 1K left it started to drizzle which was ok.

After my 35K run I had 1K walking and just before I had to pass the car road to get over near the golf club it started to rain a bit more, got wet, was on my way to fix the syncing over to my mobile app, the phone got wet so I had to put it back in my ultra back pack.

Knew that Wille was already at Vik, was not sure if I would take a dip in the ocean or not but since it was unsteady weather, raining back and forth I decided that I would not take a swim in the ocean so I had to do a pick shower (=raggardusch) with wipes.

It felt that I still was tired after the run on Kullaberg even if the pain has stopped at the sides of my thighs, it was tough running up on the hills and even if I had some knee issues I was satisfied with the run. Hoped it would be shorter than last time

20.63 Trail Run

#58

Today it was time for my first run this year around Kullen (Kullaberg).

November 3rd I will run Kullamannen (Double Death, 44K) and decided earlier that it will be 3x40K runs and 2xKullaberg to get fully prepared for this race.

I could have done another thing today but I cannot be at two places at the same time and since the goal this year is to run through the finish line Kullaberg was more important.

So I took the train to Helsingborg and then the bus to Mölle. During the bus ride it rained, it was suppose to rain at 8 am but as we know weather is very unpredictable. But I hoped it would stop.

Here on Kullaberg I need to follow a route because I cannot find my way around, it is not my regular trail running area, I come up here 2-3 times before the race, the plan this year was to run in the spring as well but since I ran into pneumonia beginning of this year I needed to get in better shape before I could get up here. It is a tough lap even if it 21K instead of those 35-40K runs I do on Österlen.

When I started the run it was very windy down at the harbour but when I finally got into the woods it was more calm.

Last year it was a lot of walking up on most hills but now I could run up on most of them before the stone part.

I hadn’t run very far before the rain started, what a bummer, tried to hide under some trees but it did not help and I thought that if I have come all the way up here the rain is not going to destroy my day so start to run otherwise it will be a long day, started running again and the rain stopped, did not get so wet.

Got down to the stone part and followed the rule to stay closer to the land then more to the water, less wet stones and it was not so wet this day lucky me but there are still loose stones, they can seem to be steady but when u step on one it will move so I always walk on these stones and do not try to run, 700 m took 44 minutes and then Nimis shows up, an art work by a Swedish artists in wood, a steep hill up which I also walk/climb up on. It had rained earlier so it was a bit wet. It feels when u get up all the way to the top and then you have another steep shorter hill to get up on til it is time to run and walk til u get to Håkullen. I walk where there are more rocks, wet rocks are dangerous, I hurt myself last year when I stepped on a wet stone and fell, nothing broken but hurt my hand when I tried to dampen the fall.

Decided not follow the route 100% from the bottom to the beginning of Håkullen. I finally made it. Then the worst part is over.

This time I did not get lost, when I get closer to the light house and I get down a hill there is a gate to the left that I have missed in the past and has turned to the right but have realized that it was wrong.

Today I also tested these notorious Altra Timp. Saw these in a running paper, the grip looked good but when I read the reviews it was more cons then pros. If u haven’t listened to ”the ginger runner” on Youtube here is a video Review Timp The Ginger Runner but the ginger runner said that there are people who love the Timp so it would be interesting.

I can say this, the trail shoe was nothing wrong with except that it turned out it was too small for my feet even if I had ordered a bigger size so it was not nice after a while to run down the hills, that was the only negative thing I could say about this shoe. So the chance is high that I will order a new pair and sell the old pair.

The first 10K took 2.30h but then I also have the two toughest parts. Hoped that it would take less then 5h to get back. At the light house it was windy and I took it easy down the light house.

This day Kullaberg seemed to be occupied with Danes, I love Denmark but the people in front of me during my last 4 K’s did not know the rule about moving to the sides when runners or trekkers comes behind them and want to pass so I had to make a move when I had the chance so I could continue in my pace the rest of the way.

So finally I was on the beach and had 800 m left til Mölle harbour, had to run where the finish line normally is, this year it will be moved because they are renovating the harbour when the race is.

So what can I say about this first run compared to last year, 30 minutes faster, ran up on more hills, felt good. Last year one lap took 4.30h, it was very gooey and I had not prepared enough, was suppose to run some 40K runs but did not happen, was twice up on Kullen but that is not enough, ran into a knee problem closer to the light house and walking did not help so I threw in the towel.

So I hope for a fast first lap around 3.30 and then 5h on the second lap, then I will not make it before the max time of 8h but the goal for me is to run through the finish line and if I won’t be on the list, it is OK.

After the run it was time for the mandatory swim in the ocean, cold but refreshing.

Then Wille and I shared a shrimp sandwich for lunch after the swim
